Russian River Extravaganza!

So, we finally took our first family vacation. I now understand why the word "family" is used to modify "vacation;" it's just not really the same as a regular vacation. One just assumes a vacation is relaxing, rejuvenating, and all about you. That's why you add "family" to it when babies are involved.

A few fantastic firsts, including Violet's first time in a body of fresh water, the wonderful Russian River. In the first of a number of amazing shots we'll present to you here, you will see the little area we set up for her so that she could soak her diaper in the water and put rocks in her mouth. Sun protection is a must. Although we do have some ozone left, we want to make sure Violet is as skin-cancer free as possible by the time she enters elementary school.

It's very difficult to get a good candid of a baby, particularly one who is unsure, a little cold, and seriously trying to figure out what's going on. However, this one had to be included, as it showcases Violet's flattering racing-back swimsuit. I'm not sure if you're supposed to wear a diaper with it or not, but, hey, we're environmentalists and we love our pristine California waterways!

Next, we tested Violet's maritime acumen. Although Amy and I are both originally from the Midwest, we recognize the importance of being prepared to sell the house, hit the Pacific O and get out of dodge, if necessary. Particularly as the seas continue to rise, boating skills will become more and more valuable for your child to acquire. This is Violet's first outing, on the "My Baby Floaty" that we purchased at a 5 and Dime in Guerneville
